If you haven’t been along to any of the Artists’ Networking Evenings yet, we’d highly recommend them. Last month’s event, with a talk by Jeanette Appleton, was excellent. Ed
Artist and former curator; Andrew Cross will discuss his particular fascination with the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival at East Afton and film collaboration with the rock drummer Carl Palmer, formerly of Emerson, Lake and Palmer who made their first public appearance at the 1970 festival.
While Cross’s photography and film reflect life-long interests in journeying and transport, more recently, his work has focused upon broader aspects of landscape, place and memory.
Current projects include the landscape of his early childhood on Salisbury Plain and the sites of 1970s rock festivals.
Cross has won acclaim for his photography and films of infrastructural landscapes in America and the UK.
His books include Some Trains in America and Along Some American Highways. In 2004 Cross’s first video work, characterised by a strong formal rigour found also in his stills photography, was short-listed for the Beck’s future prize.
Free entry and free drink on arrival.
