Thanks to Krissy for sharing this very good news. Ed

Three young fencers have proved they are a cut above the rest by earning their Bronze Foil awards.

Roy Drucker (10), Tom Miner (10) and Matthew Miner (14) have been working towards the certification for the last six months with the West Wight Fencing Club, based at West Wight Sports and Community Centre. The award includes both theory and practical elements covering all aspects of fencing from mastering different stokes to competitive fights.

Their coach Nick Stuart runs the club said,

“I’m very proud of their achievements. They earned it through patience and persistence. Training regularly and paying attention to detail.”

It’s been a great start to the year for the club with 17 year old Kieran Cotterill being nominated for an Isle of Wight Sports Achievement Award. Kieran has been fencing for seven years and is now a club assistant, helping to train new members including Roy, Tom and Matthew.

Why not try it?
The club train on Saturday mornings at the Sports Centre in Freshwater and are keen for new members to take up the sport.

They are also hoping to start a ladies session during the week.
