Twelve deserving projects have been selected from dozens of applications for their focus on reducing social isolation on the Island and assisting people into education, training or employment.
Besides being rebuilt and strengthened, parts of the footbridges such as the handrails that were previously soft wood, have been replaced with hard wood components to make the structures more durable requiring less maintenance.

Island Roads is undertaking three separate schemes to install new bridge decks at two locations and to create a new 100-metre causeway in the third – and largest - of the projects which will also mean the new route can be used by horse-riders.

The replacement of the old footbridges with more durable models which require less maintenance work will help ensure this route will be accessible for years to come.
