Islanders have today been receiving emails from a member of staff at Christ the King (CtK) College that are not what they appear.
A convincing fake
If you have received an email from CtK with the Subject of ‘FYI’ be extremely cautious.
“You have received a new secure email” is written in large type at the top – above that a logo saying egress.
What happens if you click
If the receiver clicks anywhere on the email (the email is in fact a jpeg graphic), they are taken to a website that says they need to log into their email account to access the ‘secure’ email.
What the attackers are after
Anyone who does log in to the email will have their email, password and 2FA code taken.
How the email got out
From someone who has analysed the emails, it’s understood that the emails seem to be sent out from the email account of a CtK staff member. OnTheWight has chosen to not reveal the email account of the staff member, to minimise any further impact.
CtK’s response
OnTheWight has contacted CtK warning them and asking for comment, but have yet to receive a reply.
