The Isle of Wight’s Conservative MP, Bob Seely, finally broke his silence on his position on his support or otherwise of the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, after police issued a fine against him ten days ago for breaking lockdown rules.
Not in response to questions local media put to him, but at 6:30pm via his Twitter account, he wrote:
“I remain supportive of the PM at the present time, but I would have voted for the amendment (as I indicated on @bbcworldatone). It is right that @ukparliament looks into this. I am glad that @govuk offered a free vote, as it should have.”
The responses to his Tweet are overwhelmingly unsupportive of his position.
Seely: Very reluctantly I may abstain
It turns out that Bob Seely took the time to speak to a BBC journalist about it yesterday. When asked, “Do we now not have a Prime Minister who is in office, but not in power?”
He started, “Personally I remain very supportive of the Prime Minister,” going on to say, “Very reluctantly I may abstain, but I’m more likely to support the vote later.” (listen again – starts 12:46)
Silence
As yet, News OnTheWight hasn’t received any replies to multiple press enquiries, despite being told by his assistant ten days ago that Bob Seely looked, “forward to providing his comments when he returns”.
