Blanchards development

Blanchard’s Field Brighstone housing development application refused by planners (Updated)

A planning application for a rural Brighstone housing development has been refused by planning officers at the Isle of Wight council.

The controversial Blanchard’s Field application attracted over 160 comments on the council’s Website, many opposing the development.

Planning officers issued a refusal notice on 2nd August stating,

The planning application is not supported by sufficient information to satisfactorily demonstrate the need for the proposed number, size and mix of dwellings, with particular reference to the proposed open market dwellings and Abbeyfield units.

Several reasons were given for refusal as set out in the refusal notice embedded below for your convenience.

The application was intended to include 13 flats, four flats and six chalet bungalows, eight semidetached assisted care bungalows, 12 units of open market housing, 14 units of affordable housing, a doctor’s surgery with associated pharmacy, community park, associated parking and formation of vehicular access from Main Road and Upper Lane
