Christ the King College celebrates outstanding GCSE and BTEC results

Pupils at Christ the King College are celebrating a remarkable set of GCSE and BTEC results, marking a significant milestone for the school and the wider Island community.

A “powerful story of perseverance and success”
Headteacher Andrew Montrose described the Year 11 cohort as a “vintage” year, the results a testament to their exceptional resilience and determination after a start to their secondary education that was disrupted by the pandemic.

These results are not just a collection of numbers; they tell a powerful story of perseverance and success.

Meeting national benchmarks for English and Maths
For the first time since 2019, the school’s headline figures are expected to meet the national benchmarks for English and Maths.

This achievement can be partly attributable to a renewed focus on two of the College’s core values: “To challenge each other to greatness” and “To be inclusive of all”, and also based on a concerted effort to drive up attendance (which has a direct impact on outcomes).

Consistent high performance
In all subjects, nearly 75 per cent of the 1,583 grades awarded were grades 4-9, demonstrating consistent high performance.

The data also shows significant improvements across most subjects and key metrics, including for disadvantaged pupils and those with specific needs, reflecting the college’s commitment to supporting every young person.

Montrose: Testament to the hard work
Headteacher Andrew Montrose said,

“This group of amazing young people have flourished after a challenging start to their secondary education, overcoming adversity with courage and determination.

“These results accelerate the upwards trajectory we are on as a school and are a testament to the hard work of the passionate and loyal teaching and support staff, and the unwavering support of parents and governors.”

Emphasis on pastoral and academic development
At Christ the King, great emphasis is placed on both the pastoral and academic development of the individual, celebrating every young person’s uniqueness in the eyes of God and fostering in them feelings of self-worth and self-belief.

The College’s ethos remains firmly rooted in family, friendliness and strong relationships.

Ensuring every pupil has a clear pathway to success
The College’s distinctive curriculum at Key Stage 4 ensures that every pupil has a clear pathway to success, whether they continue studying at CtK’s high-achieving Sixth Form or pursue other post-16 opportunities.

This year’s results are a testament to the College’s vision of being an “inclusive and aspirational Christian College where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their potential – and beyond”.

Following strong A-Level results
The impressive GCSE results follow a strong performance from the college’s Sixth Form students last week, where nearly 90 per cent of A-Level and BTEC young people who applied to university secured their place. Over 40 per cent of these pupils are heading to Russell Group institutions, a clear indicator of the high standards set at Christ the King.

The College’s distinctive Key Stage 4 provision (blending the largest combination of A level and vocational qualifications on the Island) is designed to not only prepare pupils for its high-achieving Sixth Form but also for a wide range of other opportunities across the Island and the mainland.

Mr Montrose added,

“Whatever the future holds for our out-going Year 11 pupils, the whole CtK family wishes them well.

“God bless them all as they take the next steps on their journey.”
