Wight Community Energy brings Going Electric back to Newport for fifth year

Wight Community Energy returns to Newport Quayside on 19th July 2026 with the fifth edition of its Going Electric show, building on four previous events that drew dozens of Island businesses and nearly 1,000 visitors.

The annual exhibition brings together the Isle of Wight’s main automotive dealers and the biggest local green energy installers under one roof.

Electric vehicles, solar, and more on show
Visitors can explore the latest electric cars, vans, and bikes on display throughout the venue, alongside solar panels, heat pumps and charging solutions from trusted local suppliers.

With the pressure to move away from fossil fuels growing by the year, organisers are billing this year’s event as essential viewing for anyone looking to embrace sustainable technology.

Lecture Hall programme returns
The popular Going Electric Lecture Hall programme returns for 2026, with three distinct sessions running throughout the day covering electric transport, low-energy homes and broader trends in technology and energy.

Whether you are weighing up an electric vehicle, looking to improve your home’s energy efficiency, or simply want to stay informed, the event offers something for everyone.

What the organiser says
Laurie Tennant, director of Wight Community Energy, said,

“The continuing popularity of this annual event, with both exhibitors and visitors, shows the real commitment on our Island to sustainable practice.

“Whether householders, commuters or business managers, people are keen to find out how they can contribute to a better world and at the same time reduce their costs and/or improve their comfort and convenience.”

He added,

“We hope that as many visitors as possible will come along to Riverside on 19th July and see what’s on offer at Going Electric 2026.”

Sponsors and practical information
This year’s event has the support of Red Funnel, which is developing electrified cross-Solent travel, the Co-op, which operates a fully electric home-delivery fleet, and Southern Vectis, which will bring an electric bus on site for the day.

Free parking is available at County Hall and Seaclose car parks, with disabled parking at the Riverside Centre.

The Riverside cafe will be open throughout the day for light lunches and refreshments.
