Ventnor Fringe launches community making club to craft festival decorations and props

Ventnor Fringe Festival is testing out a new idea in the run-up to this year’s festival, launching a community making club for anyone who wants to get hands-on.

The club gives volunteers a practical way to contribute, by helping create decorations, sets, signs and props for the event.

Get stuck in at Ingram’s Yard
Sessions run every Monday from 15th June, between 2pm and 4pm, at Ingram’s Yard, the festival’s workshop space in Ventnor.

Participants can learn and share skills in basic carpentry, painting and DIY techniques, picking up knowledge from workshop leaders and from each other.

Building more than just props
The organisers describe the project as being about learning practical skills, building community, and tapping into the creative energy that surrounds the Fringe in the weeks before it opens.

Nobody needs any prior experience to take part – but those who already have a trade or practical skills are equally welcome, and can share what they know with others.

Just turn up
There is no need to book in advance, and attendees do not need to commit to every session.

The only requirement is to wear clothes that can get messy.

Who can attend
The making club is open to those aged 18 and over.

Brave Island runs a separate group for 16 to 25-year-olds, with more details available on its website.
