Christ the King College moves up a rating after Ofsted visit

Christ the King College are celebrating the significant improvements found by Ofsted in their visit in July 2021.

Of particular note is that the leadership and management of the school is now judged to be good, as are behaviour and attitudes.

Successfully raised expectations across the school
The report notes that,

Senior leaders have successfully raised expectations across the school. In addition to improving the security and safety of the school they have brought about significant improvements to behaviour and enhanced the quality of education.

Many aspects of curriculum significantly improved
The inspectors agreed with the school’s self evaluation that although many aspects of the curriculum have improved significantly, with the result that most pupils achieve well, there are subjects in which the curriculum is in an earlier stage of development.

Robust plans are already in place to move these forward apace. Inspectors noted that the strength of practice evident in many subjects enables students in the Sixth Form to achieve well, and the school is pleased that this is recognised in the judgement made by Ofsted that the Sixth Form is also good.

Support fort SEND pupils
The report notes that ‘Leaders are increasingly ambitious for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), disadvantaged pupils and the most able pupils’, and leaders are looking forward to continuing the improvements shown in this area by working to ensure that all subjects provide exceptionally well for these pupils.

The school has also embarked on a training programme to ensure that all staff are confident to teach about equality and diversity with confidence.

McDermott: Exceptionally proud of the staff, students and wider community
The headteacher, Mr McDermott, states,

“I am exceptionally proud of the staff, students and wider community of Christ the King College that have enabled such significant improvements to be made as well as nurturing, supporting and educating our young people throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are looking forward very much to the next stages of our improvement journey.”
