Considerable improvements at Isle of Wight care home

An Isle of Wight Care Home has received their latest CQC inspection report this week.

The Croft in Freshwater received an unannounced inspected last month. The home has seen considerable improvement since the CQC were forced to take enforcement action in 2012.

The latest inspection report finds the home ‘Good’ in three of the areas of care and ‘Requires Improvement’ in two, giving an overall rating of ‘Requires Improvement’.

Residents positive about care
Some highlights from the report include:

  • There were enough staff to meet people’s needs and contingency arrangements were in place to ensure staffing levels remained safe.
  • Staff received appropriate training and were supported through the use of one to one supervision and appraisal.
  • Staff were offering people choices and respecting their decisions appropriately.
  • People felt safe and staff knew how to identify, prevent and report abuse. Plans were in place to deal with foreseeable emergencies.
  • Care plans provided comprehensive information about how people wished to be cared for and staff were aware of people’s individual care needs.
  • People and their relatives were positive about the service they received.
  • They praised the staff and care provided.
  • People were also positive about meals and the support they received to ensure they had a nutritious diet.
  • Visitors were welcomed and there were good working relationships with external professionals.
  • The CQC found two breaches of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014
  • The home was well maintained with further plans to improve the environment agreed by the provider.
