The first shot shows Frenchman, Franck Cammas, from Groupama (who didn’t make the podium) being interviewed by Richard Simmons about their dramatic course towards the beach and having to abandon craft.
Oman, the winning team take to the podium. Relative newcomers to the sport but well able to compete in the international arena. Shirley Robertson is in the frame as she is taken in by TV viewers.
Free Champagne conditioner
The champagne celebration was memorable. I got a special champagne treatment to my hair which would no doubt have been very expensive otherwise.
It was great to share in the shear exhilaration of this event with the boats coming in close to shore showing all the dramatic manoevres associated with multi-hulls – riding high, tacking and gibing.
There was a real sense of excitement, even for the non-sailors among us, brought alive by spontaneous commentary (notably by the Frenchman who was so totally in the moment and entertained the crowd).
