Sea Scouts picnic: All welcome
To celebrate 100 years of the Sea Scouts a picnic has been planned for 5pm on Sunday 4th August in conjunction with Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week. This picnic will be followed by the traditional Scouts Camp Fire with a chance for all ex Scouts and anyone else who may wish to join in, to remember those special Camp Fire songs.

Members of Girlguiding have been invited. Both events will take place at Northwood House and books commemorating the 100 years of Sea Scouts on the Island will be on sale.

Written by Scout archivist Barry Groves we reviewed this book last year after Barry had presented a special edition to Her Majesty the Queen on her visit to Cowes. For anyone involved with Scouting it is an excellent read.

Family day
Throughout ‘The Week’ there is a lot going on in Cowes shoreside.

Family day on Sunday 4th August has family fun in Cowes Yacht Haven as well as entertainment on Cowes Parade and around the town.

There will be Children’s flag-making and painting competitions at the Solent Events and Britannia Bar in Cowes Yacht Haven, held in conjunction with Cowes Primary School, from 11:00 – 14:30. and The Jack FM Air Guitar Championship on Cowes Parade.

Moth, Kitesurf, Windsurf Showdown
Watch the ‘Moth, Kitesurf, Windsurf Showdown’ in a highly-charged, spectacular battle between Volvo Ambassadors off the Green between 5pm and 6pm on Monday 5 August and 18ft Skiffs will be racing off The Green on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 August between 5pm and 6pm ensuring some great close-to-shore action.

Cast your vote for Ladies Day
Have you voted for a lady who sails to become this year’s winner of the Ladies Day Trophy? The event celebrates women in sailing on Ladies Day, in partnership with the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation, on Thursday 8 August.

Also on this day the Mount Gay Rum Red Cap Party will take place at Shepards Wharf Marina.

Red Arrows show
Cowes Week Limited has been working hard to secure the Red Arrows as part of the entertainment programme for this year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week and is delighted to report that the Red Arrows will be back at this year’s event on Friday 9 August thanks to support from local letterbox.

The Red Arrows take to the skies at 7.30pm, weather permitting, providing a spectacular prelude to the Fireworks display which takes place at 9.30pm.

The SB20 Grand Slam
From the 3rd August to 6th August a round of The SB20 Grand Slam will be taking place in the waters off Cowes. For those not familiar with SB20s they are the Laser SB3 renamed. Sponsorship for this event is from ‘SportsBoat World’ a company founded in 2012 by the Laser SB 3 designer Tony Castro.

Cowes is hosting the third event in this Grand Slam series with the other two events having been held in Hyeres and Lake Garda.
