Dimbola Museum and Galleries opens its second spring exhibition this month, with local photographer and artist Syd Buron taking over the Studio Gallery for a new show titled “Eavesdropping on the Other World”.
The exhibition brings together paintings, photographic works and pieces by other artists who have influenced Syd’s practice.
Acid folk and ancient folklore
Much of the painted work stems from Syd’s residency at Ventnor Botanic Garden, with his focus on psychedelic depictions of folklore – creating, in his own words, a visual companion to the contemporary “acid folk” music scene.
Syd said,
“I am honoured to once again be exhibiting in the room which was once Julia Margaret Cameron’s Studio.”
A return to the darkroom
Returning to analogue processes, Syd has produced photographic works printed on the backs of theatre light lenses, mounted in circular wooden frames and illuminated from behind – giving them the appearance of glowing portholes into another world.

A long relationship with Dimbola
Syd first exhibited at Dimbola in 2014, in the tearoom, and returned to the Studio Gallery in 2023.

“Eavesdropping on the Other World” runs from 13th March to 7th June 2026.
The gallery opens Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 3pm, until 28th March, when it extends to seven days a week, 10am to 4pm.
