Golf links road flooded

Eastern Yar valley residents on alert as water levels continue to fall slowly

The Environment Agency have issued a Flood Alert for Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge.

Residents are advised to “Be prepared”. Issued at 2.18pm (Wednesday), the Flood Alert update reads:

Water levels throughout the Eastern Yar valley continue to fall slowly.

Flooding of Golf Links Road and Moreton Common Road, Sandown, is likely to continue to reduce.

Ditches around Fort Holiday Park will struggle to drain while river levels are high. A period of unsettled weather is expected over the next few days.

Whilst the immediate risk of flooding has receded, a moderate amount of rain (up to 15mm on each day) is forecast for today (28/02/24), Thursday (29/02/24) and Friday (1/03/24).

This additional rainfall will maintain the responsive nature of the Eastern Yar catchment.

Property flooding is not expected.

We will continue to monitor the forecast and will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages.

Avoid walking or driving through flood water.
