Fay Hewitt Brown’s history piece near the end of the South Wight Chronicle is always a welcome read.
This weeks took us back to 1946 where one of the items covered was the discussion of parking on the Esplanade.
The Council made a decision, with a majority recommendation, to withdraw parking and impose a 10 MPH speed limit along the Esplanade.
The Esplanade with cars along it was variously described by the councillors as “a death trap,” and “like walking through a car park.”
