The Ventnor Royal British Legion is remembering the Isle of Wight Rifles who died in the Gallipoli landings 100 years ago with an event at Ventnor Park on Sunday 16th August.

There will be stalls, displays and music by Quitile and the Sandown and Shanklin Military Band in the Park from 1pm and then a short commemoration service at the war memorial at 3pm.

Badges made specially to commemorate the event will be on sale.

Isle of Wight Rifles parade
There will be a parade, with representatives of the present Isle of Wight Rifles, in front of the Lord Lieutenant and the High Sheriff and other dignitaries, including the MP and the Mayor of Ventnor.

Details of those from Ventnor who died and poems will be part of the service. In addition, Bernard Cawley will read the Kohima to mark the 70th anniversary of VJ Day.

Over 80 died at Gallipoli
The Isle of Wight Rifles were in the front line of the assault at Gallipoli in 1915 and over 80 of the regiment died.

The Gallipoli event is one of a series that the Ventnor Royal British Legion is organising, with support from the Town Council, to mark the phases of the First World War.
