Many thanks to Guy for alerting OnTheWight readers in the Gurnard area of this upcoming public meeting that should be of interest to all those concerned about their local area. Ed

Neighbourhood Plans were introduced within the Localism Act 2011 and give communities the opportunity to have a legally binding say in the way their community is developed over the years ahead.

Last week the country’s very first Neighbourhood Plan, the area of Upper Eden in Cumbria, was the first community to vote to accept its local plan and this must now be referred to by their local planning department when considering future planning applications.

Housing need survey
Part of the process currently being undertaken by Gurnard is an assessment of the Parish’s current and future housing need and a survey is shortly to be distributed in this regard.

Public meeting
Gurnard residents are being encouraged to attend a meeting at the Village Hall on 21st March at 7pm to hear about progress on the preparation of a Neighbourhood Plan for the Parish.

They will be told about the importance of the Housing Needs Survey that will be delivered to every home at the end of the month.

Gurnard’s Neighbourhood Plan
The survey results will provide essential information the future housing needs of all current residents. This will be used to support proposals for the development and use of land that will be set out in the Neighbourhood Plan.
