Flood Alert issued as up to 40mm of rain forecast

The Environment Agency (EA) have issued a Flood Alert for the Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge.

They warn residents to ‘Be prepared’.

The Alert (which was sent at 10.30am) reads:

The water level in the Eastern Yar is higher than normal, but following the dry weather yesterday (25/11/22), it continues to slowly fall.

Today, residual flood impacts affecting roads, cycle tracks and footpaths is expected.

At Sandown, the river is now low enough to allow ditches around Fort Holiday Park to drain.

However, by early afternoon (26/11/22) and into Sunday (27/11/22) further heavy rain (20-40mm) is forecast.

The river will rise quickly in response to any rain and it will cause additional flooding impacts to land, gardens and roads.

Should 40mm of rain affect the river, then property flooding may occur at Alverstone and Langbridge. We continue to monitor the forecast.

Please ensure that any products used to protect gardens and property from flooding can operate.
