There was a very interesting feature on Radio Four yesterday, when Sheila Dillon of the Food Programme discussed the vital role that churches, temples and mosques are playing in feeding those who have been hit by the (now triple-dip) recession.
The abolition of the Social Fund in March 2013 (as highlighted here On The Wight yesterday) is forcing churches and religious groups to gear up for a significant rise in those seeking help.
One and a half tonnes donated recently
The recent Feed People in Need appeal for the Isle of Wight foodbank resulted in a final measured total of food donated by the generous customers of Tesco Extra in Ryde to be 1458.90 kg. That’s nearly one and a half tonnes!
Well done to all involved, keep up the good work.
