The women behind Wight Wahines, the very first all-female Isle of Wight surfing festival, have organised a fundraising film screening later this month.
Taking place at Niton Old School Cinema (at 7pm on Sunday 23rd October), all proceeds from the film night will be going towards Freshwater Skatepark.
Tickets will be available on the door priced at £6.
Girls Can’t Surf
The film they’ll be showing is Girls Can’t Surf, which has received 100 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a four star rating from the Guardian.
Girls Can’t Surf is the untold story of female professional surfers in the 80s and 90s and how differently they were treated in competitions, not only in attitude and opportunities, but also the huge pay gap, which thankfully, has since been eradicated.
The documentary is described by the Guardian reviewer as an “enormously enjoyable adrenaline rush of a film”.
