Halloween activities help bring foster families closer together

Isle of Wight Council foster families were busy in the run-up to Halloween — with an autumn pumpkin carving competition.

Families were provided with an activity pack of fun and games to play, crafts to make and home recipes to feast on for All Hallows’ Eve.

Farmhouse Fayre, of St James’ Street, Newport, fulfilled an order of 34 fresh cut pumpkins, which were delivered door-to-door by the Isle of Wight Fostering team.

“Means a lot to our birth children too”
One carer said,

“The children love taking part in all the activities the council put on.

“They feel they are included and especially means a lot to our birth children too!”

Andre: Help to bring households together
Cllr Debbie Andre, Cabinet member for children’s services, said,

“Activities like this pumpkin carving competition help to bring households together and to provide a sense of family fun to our dedicated foster families.

“The competition entries were fabulous — some really artistic creations — congratulations to everyone who got involved.”

A welcoming home
Foster families provide a welcoming home for children who are unable to live with their birth families.

Our carers offer children a place in their family home for as long as they need it. Most importantly children are made to feel included in all aspects of family life.
