A handgun and grenade where found in a black rubbish bag in Ryde yesterday.
We’ve check with the Police who tell us that after inspection by officers it was later discovered that both weapons had been decommissioned.
VB has been told that while on its usual collection route, a crew of a Biffa truck made the discovery.
Police were called and a crime scene declared while the incident was investigated and the items were removed. The owner had been traced.
More details as soon as we hear them.

At 10.53am on Tuesday, February 21 police received a report that a handgun and a hand grenade had been found in the back of a dustcart in St Thomas Street, Ryde.
Police were deployed to the scene, where they established that both items had been decommissioned and were safe. The owner of the devices was tracked down and given appropriate information about how items such as these should be disposed of.
“Sergeant Andy Gill, said: If you find or have a firearm that you no longer want or need to dispose of, even if it has been decommissioned, call the police. We can arrange for it to be dealt with appropriately.
“If you find a gun, a grenade or any suspected explosive device, leave it where it is and call the police immediately. We will assess it and arrange appropriate disposal.”
