Historic Newport Rowing Club overwhelmed by support in restoration drive

Newport RC closed their Crowdfunder this week having reached, and exceeded their target for clubhouse repairs.

The club hoped to raise £8,000 to undertake necessary work to keep the clubhouse standing for another generation.

The campaign, including a contribution of £2,400 from Sport England has raised £9,500.

Club Chair Julie Clarke said,

“We have been truly humbled by the support and encouraging messages. It really means a lot to us. We know that we are just the current custodians of our historic clubhouse, and believed it was a building that the community loved too. The support we have had has confirmed this.”

Slipway repairs commenced
Knowing the funds were coming, the club have started the slipway repairs this week, and the steel underpinning begins next week.

The extra money raised will allow the refurbishment of the upstairs section, and if there is enough money they hope to  repaint the north side of the roof with the iconic ‘NRC’ motif.

Look out for the Open Day
Once  the building is in good shape the club are planning an open day to show it off, so keep an eye on the press and the Newport Rowing Club Facebook page for details.
