Princess Anne will visit Mountbatten on Tuesday, as part of this year’s celebrations to mark 45 years of hospice care on the Island.
HRH The Princess Royal will be given a tour and meet staff, volunteers, patients and their families.
It is the latest in a series of Mountbatten events this year to celebrate the start of the Island’s hospice story, which began in 1977.
Hartley: Our services have grown and evolved
Nigel Hartley, Mountbatten CEO, said,
“We are delighted to welcome HRH The Princess Royal back to Mountbatten.
“So much has changed since she last visited in 2013.
“Our services have grown and evolved and we are now looking after thousands more people across the Island.
“It gives us an opportunity to showcase what Mountbatten looks like today, supporting people in so many ways, 24/7.”
Welcoming new Trustees
The visit follows yesterday’s (Thursday’s) AGM at Mountbatten, which included a farewell to four long-standing trustees – Rosamond Poncia, Josephine Smith, Philip Shears, Edward Nicholson and John Trotter.
Nigel says,
“I would like to say a huge thank you to them all for everything they have done for Mountbatten over the last years.
“They have played a vital role in shaping our work to ensure we can support the growing number of people who need our care, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Barbara Halliday, Stephen Izatt, Steve Brookwell, Dave Bennett, Andrew Neill and Moraig Forrest-Charde were all appointed to the Board of Trustees at the meeting.
Cheshire: New trustees bring a wealth of skills and experience
Sir Ian Cheshire, Chair of Trustees, said,
“I would like to welcome our new trustees, who bring a wealth of skills and experience to help us move forward.
“We are an ambitious organisation and we want to continue to grow to enable us to be there for our local communities both now and into the future.
“Our trustees are key to that, so while this is a challenging time, it is also very exciting for us all.”

45th anniversary afternoon tea party
Meanwhile, an afternoon tea party for the 45th anniversary, to celebrate and thank the Island’s community for its ongoing support, is being held at Mountbatten on 13th October.
It is taking place between 2.30pm and 4.30pm and everyone is welcome to attend.
