The second day of the Island Games on the Isle of Wight were held yesterday, with the Archery and Swimming events being opened, the games were in full swing.
Many records and gold medals have been gained in just two days of the Island Games being opened with Guernsey triumphing at the top.
The 2009 the Island Games were held in Ã…land and 67 records had been broken in that year with Faroe Islands picking up many of them, however this year 14 records have been broken all together and there are still four more days to go.
Guernsey reaching top spot
A total of seven records have been achieved by Guernsey in the past two days, having obtained half the amount of all records made this year.
They’ve also won themselves a grand total of 14 gold medals and eight silver medals putting them in first place on the medal table.
Results and medals won
The Island’s own team have collected a total of seven gold and three silver medals so far and have broken one record, made by Darren Mew Swimming 100m men’s breaststroke, successfully ranking second place in the medal table just between Guernsey and the Isle
of Man.
Guernsey have performed well in the swimming events having won the majority of their gold medals from it, while the Isle of Wight have earned three gold medals each from the athletics and shooting events.
The Isle of Man are not far behind the Isle of Wight on the medal table by getting just six gold medals but eight silver medals, gaining three of their gold medals in the shooting events.
Faroe Islands had a very successful year in 2009 getting many records but this year only accomplishing to get two records out of the 14 set.
Changes by the end of the week?
The Shetland Islands are currently at the bottom of the medal table, with one gold, one silver and one bronze.
However this is the Shetlands Islands, some of the smallest islands in the Island Games, return to the Games after missing the 2009 event.
In the next four days of the Games, the records and medals will continue to rise and the medal table rankings will most definitely continue to rise and the rankings will certainly change.
