Schools on the Isle of Wight will be supporting a Guinness World Record attempt on Wednesday 29 September as part of a national event.
Each of the 62 schools will be taking part in the Food For Life ‘Roast Dinner Day’ where parents and the local community are invited to join the school for an organic and locally sourced roast dinner.
Celebration of improvement in school dinners
The event aims to celebrate work carried out by the council, schools and school meals provider Pabulum to improve dinners and also introduce healthier meals.
All 41 primaries, 13 middles, six high schools and two special needs schools will be taking part in the event, which aims to set a new record for the most amount of schools serving a roast dinner in a single day.
David Pugh, Isle of Wight Council Leader is looking forward to the day, saying “Although the world record part is a bit of fun, there is a serious side to the day.
“Not only are schools supporting Island businesses by sourcing food locally, they are also reinforcing the importance of having a daily healthy and nutritious meal.”
Parents should contact their local schools for further information and times of the meals.
