Isle of Wight 80’s power pop band release new single

Recently reformed Isle of Wight band, Cassie, have returned to the studio after 39 years and recorded two brand new songs written by lead vocalist Debbie Coles and produced in collaboration with Phil Oswald (ex The Choir/Pumphouse Gang).

Their new self-released single ‘Don’t Let The Music Stop’ is available now on all streaming platforms.

Background
Formed on the Isle of Wight back in 1978 power pop band Cassie were originally made up of Nigel Hayles on guitar, lead vocals from Debbie Barker (now Coles) , Eric Biggs on bass and Hugh Kim Lewis on drums.

The four-piece were managed by Wilf Pine, former manager for Black Sabbath, who signed them to AKA Records. Their only single Change My Image was released in 1982 and became instantly obscure on release.

The band went their separate ways in 1985. That seemed to be that.

Power pop resurgence
Decades passed and astonishingly, among a backdrop of power pop resurgence, New York’s Reminder Records came across the band’s original single Change My Image and loved it.

They re-released the single in May 2020 and it flew off the shelves particularly in England, USA and Japan.

Former recording sessions discovered
Reminder Records were keen to follow up with more re-releases, but the band thought all their other recorded material had been destroyed in a fire at drummer Hugh’s house.

Amazingly, when Debbie delved into her attic she discovered music tapes from numerous recording sessions that hadn’t seen the light of day for 40 years. On Christmas Eve 2020 thirteen of these long lost tracks, written by Debbie and their late guitarist Nigel, were released in Cassie’s first album The Light Shines On.
