The Isle of Wight music scene is buzzing with activity at the moment, as several new releases have dropped in the last few days and more to come later in the week.
Last week saw Isle of Wight band, Reminders, launch their debut album. Their music is described as “breakneck but bubblegum, a pop-tinged punk” and Best of Beach Punk is a snapshot into their world; the good, the bad and the ugly.
The three-piece is made up by Leo Dyke, Theo Afsarian and Harry Spencer.
Having signed a record deal at the end of last year with Venn Records in the UK and Wiretap Records in the USA, the band have been on a mini-UK tour, and will be performing in London tonight (Tuesday) and finishing in Brighton on Saturday night.
About the band
Reminders approach punk rock from where they know it best: a forgotten seaside town. Formed on the Isle of Wight in 2017, the band cut their teeth writing songs about teenage lust and suburban boredom, gaining attention after they independently released Water Sports and Major Cities.
Fresh-faced and excited, the then-teenagers coined their sound ‘beach punk’; a tongue-in-cheek ode to their hometown that they stand by today.
Reminders have already championed by BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music and BBC Introducing, as well as landing placements on esteemed Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists alike, they were labelled ‘scorching slacker pop’ by the influential CLASH Magazine and dubbed ‘About to Break’ by UPSET Magazine.
The flows of consciousness from a 16 to 19-year-old kid
The band say,
“”Having an album feels like way more than we bargained for when we started writing these songs. They were never supposed to be a part of some piece of art. That was never in the plan.
“These songs really are just the flows of consciousness from a 16 to 19-year-old kid, to the sound of power pop music. Either way, it’s super exciting and we feel incredibly excited to get it out in the world.”
