Bea behind bars

Isle of Wight bands unite for Quay Arts fundraiser to save endangered bears

The Wildheart Sanctuary in Sandown is urgently working to rescue two bears, Benji and Balu, who are in a critical condition.

To support this rescue mission, a local fundraising event has been swiftly organised, aiming to bring the community together for a worthy cause.

Fundraiser details
Sally Bowers, a dedicated supporter of the sanctuary, has put together a fundraiser at Quay Arts, Newport, scheduled for Sunday, 1st September.

The event will feature ten of the Isle of Wight’s local bands, playing consecutively over ten hours. The music starts at midday and will continue until 10pm, offering a full day of entertainment.

Sally has also secured an impressive raffle, with contributions from many generous local businesses. This raffle promises to be a highlight of the day, with all proceeds going directly to the rescue efforts.

Call to she Community
Sally emphasised the importance of community support for this event, saying,

“We simply couldn’t ‘bear’ it if no-one turns up after all our hard work.”

She believes that a successful rescue mission could bring some much-needed positivity to Sandown and even hinted at the possibility of establishing a small colony of rescued bears in the future.

Line-up and hosting
The fundraiser will be hosted by Bobby Dixon, a well-known local personality. The line-up of bands includes popular names such as Average Wight Band, The Lemon Thieves, Bittersweet, MK III, Feck, Georgia Nicole, Island Vibe, Audio Ghosts, Wight Ukers, and Greg Barnes.

Each band brings its unique style and energy, ensuring there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Contribute to this important cause
This event is not only an opportunity to enjoy a day of great music but also a chance to contribute to a vital cause. The rescue of Benji and Balu depends on the success of fundraisers like this one, and the organisers are hopeful that the community will come out in full support.
