The Isle of Wight Green Party is pleased to announce Doug Alldred as the party’s candidate for the Brighstone, Calbourne and Shalfleet By-Election to be held on 24th November.

In the 2021 local elections, Doug stood in this ward for the Isle of Wight Green Party, considerably increasing the Green Vote in Brighstone, Calbourne and Shalfleet, which puts the Greens in a uniquely strong position to win this ward in November’s election.

Doug is a Brighstone Parish Councillor where he works hard on issues important across Brighstone, Brook, Hulverstone, and Mottistone such as road safety, flooding and sewerage, and planning issues.

Island-born
Doug was born on the Island and grew up in Brighstone. He attended Brighstone Primary, Nodehill Middle, and Carisbrooke High schools before studying Music Technology at University.

Having returned to the island after his degree, Doug still lives in the ward where he grew up and is now a self-employed musician, prominent on the Island’s music scene performing at pubs, events, and festivals.

Heavily involved with Arts, Culture, and Heritage
Doug is also heavily involved in the Island’s Arts, Culture, and Heritage sector through his job at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, and works on many cultural projects including Ventnor Fringe, and Kashmir Café at the Isle of Wight Festival which supports Quay Arts.
