Isle of Wight LINk’s New Priorities for 2012/13

Thanks to Jenny from LINk for sharing details of their priorities in the coming year. In their own words. Ed

Five:Following a recent request for public involvement in helping prioritise the Isle of Wight LINk’s workplan themes for the forthcoming year, Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services has been chosen as the next topic to be explored by the LINk.

‘Active’ LINk members gathered for a half-day workshop on 15th May, looking at feedback from the previous year, as well as discussing their own ideas and experiences with each other.

From this workshop, a list of five workplan themes was devised, which was then distributed for public response to help determine the order in which the themes should be looked at.

Good response
We received a great response, with 42 people completing the online questionnaire and a further 67 giving feedback to LINk support staff at public events such as Riverfest, which took part on the banks of the River Medina in May.

This exercise was also a great way for the LINk to learn about other health and social care related matters, which had been noted by the general public when completing the questionnaire.

Child & Adolescent Mental Health a priority
A total of 109 responses were received. When the contents were counted, the theme rated first for consideration was Child & Adolescent Mental Health, followed by Dementia and Discharge from Hospital. Oral hygiene and Prison Health are also on the list of workplan topics for the coming year.

“We were pleasantly surprised by the number of people who took the time to consider the issue areas and contact us with their views on the priorities. This will keep the LINk busy until April 2013 and provide a suitably legacy for our successor organisation, Healthwatch” Chris Orchin, LINk Stewardship Group Chair
