Tour of Britain race on a hill in the countryside

Isle of Wight stage of Tour of Britain has been cancelled

The Tour of Britain, which was due to come to the Isle of Wight for the final stage, has been brought to an end early, meaning it won’t be coming to the Island on Sunday as planned.

At 10:30pm Thursday evening, the organisers made the announcement, saying this was, “as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty The Queen”.

They went on to say:

“This decision has been taken in consultation with stakeholders and partners in light of operational circumstances, including the understandable reassignment of police resources at this time.”

Winner declared
Thursday’s stage was declared the last stage and the rider in the lead at that time, Gonzalo Serrano (Movistar Team) named the overall winning rider. He was just three seconds ahead of Britain’s Tom Pidcock.

Additionally, the respective classification leaders – Tom Pidcock (Dodl by AJ Bell points), Mathijs Paasschens (SKODA King of the Mountains) and Matthew Teggart (Sportsbreaks.com sprints) – were declared the winners of those competitions.
