Figures for unemployed claimants came out this morning which show that 1,808 people on the Isle of Wight were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in November 2014.
Unemployment Benefit figures released by the Office for National Statistics show an increase of 205 since October, which reported 1,603 JSA claimants, but a whopping fall of 1,204 from November 2013 (3,012).
That means 2.2% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 1% more than the rest of the South East (1.2%), and 0.2 more than the whole of the UK (2.0%).
