Outside the Isle of Wight Festival over the weekend, several Isle of Wight police officers took part in a fundraising event for the Joe Ellis Trust appeal.
Thirteen year old Joe Ellis was diagnosed with primary mediastinum large B cell lymphoma last year and although already been through radiotherapy and chemothearapy, there’s still no sign of remission.
Passers-by were invited pay to throw eggs or wet sponges at the volunteers (police officers in full uniform) and a whopping £6,500 was raised towards the fund as a result. Joe’s Dad, Simon, works alongside the officers who volunteered to the egged.
Pioneering treatment
Southampton Hospital have agreed to fund the first three of a pioneering cancer treatment from the US. Joe’s family need to find £100,000 for the remaining 13 treatments, just in case their funding application to the UK panel isn’t successful.
The fundraising is primarily for Joe’s treatment, but if the family’s funding application is successful or the Trust raises more than is needed, it’ll be donated to other Island children who are in the same situation.
How to help
Over £28,000 has already been raised in just over a week.
If you would like to donate to the fund, email [email protected] and Joe’s parents will get back to you with details of the Joe Ellis trust fund account.
Joe’s father, Simon says,
“Please find it in yourselves to help out in any way you can. I thank you in advance for any assistance you can give.”
