Hear John Medland on Radio 4 on Saturday morning

As thousands of yachts sail past The Needles, a pre-recorded feature from the site of the ‘world’s first radio station’ will be aired on Radio 4. Tune in to hear Isle of Wight councillor and local historian John Medland.

John McCarthy

You can hear Isle of Wight historian and county councillor John Medland talking on BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live programme tomorrow morning from 9am.

In a pre-recorded feature, John talks to John McCarthy ‘from the site of the world’s first radio station’ at Alum Bay.

John, who has an incredible depth of historical knowledge about the Isle of Wight, told OnTheWight that they were almost blown over by an onshore gale during the recording.

You can find out more about the ‘world’s first radio station’ from this article written by John Medland back in 2007.
Tune into Radio 4 from 9am to hear the feature.

Thanks to Seb for the heads-up.

I recognise John McCarthy, but wonder who the other 2 are. John Medland is clean shaven in previous photos I’ve seen of him.

John Medland is not included in this photo, but what is that giant lipstick all about ?

It’s the usual size, just very near the camera.

This is the wrong photo, if you’re still wondering!

Thanks Kasper! It must have been Hannah and Mike who were interviewed as well, in an engaging piece.
