There are lots of high scores — but still some lows — being handed out to Isle of Wight eateries after inspections for food hygiene standards ratings.
Restaurants, cafes and food production companies on the Isle of Wight are rated on a scale from 0 ‘Urgent Improvement Necessary’ to 5 ‘Very Good’, in line with government guidance under the Food Standards Agency.
The inspections are carried out by the Isle of Wight council’s environmental health officers where establishments are ranked across three categories — hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and food safety management.
A score is then given to the business to determine how safe and clean they are — but just how well have recent inspections turned out?
