A new food hygiene rating scheme which will be used on the Isle of Wight will be officially launched later this month.
The national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) replaces the council’s well used Scores on the Doors system that has been used since 2007.
Launch At Brading Roman Villa
It will be launched at Brading Roman Villa at 1pm on Tuesday 29 March, demonstrating that ratings will be issued to all types of businesses that supply food directly to consumers such as cafes, pubs, takeaways, restaurants and mobile caterers.
The FHRS involves a 0 – 5 rating scale, with 0 meaning ‘urgent improvement necessary’ and 5 meaning ‘very good’. The current Scores on the Doors scheme operates on a similar basis, awarding 0 – 5 stars.
All outlets will receive a new sticker shortly, with the rating based on their most recent food hygiene inspection.
Make informed choices
The ratings will allow residents and visitors alike to make informed choices about to where to eat and buy food using a system consistent across the country, making it a good advertisement for businesses that comply with food law whilst encouraging others to improve.
The new stickers will be on the doors of food businesses from 29 March and online at food.gov.uk/ratings
