Letter: Tory candidates questioned over party’s acceptance of funds from donor with history of racist remarks

OnTheWight always welcomes a Letter to the Editor to share with our readers – unsurprisingly they don’t always reflect the views of this publication. If you have something you’d like to share, get in touch and of course, your considered comments are welcome below.

This from Ieuan Jehu, Totland. Ed

I’ve just heard the news that the Conservative Party have accepted a further £5,150,000 from a donor who said that the merest existence of the UK’s first female MP of colour made him “want to hate all black women” and that she should “be shot”, after Rishi Sunak finally admitted that those comments were racist.

Almost half the donations
The spending limit for UK parties standing a candidate in every parliamentary constituency in  this election is £34,134,320.

The total sum donated to the Tory party by the racist Frank Hester over the last two years is £15,150,000.

Candidates’ views?
This means that 44p of every pound which the Tories are spending as they attempt to get Bob Seely and Joe Robertson elected to represent the Island, was provided by someone with a history of making racist remarks.

I would love to know how those candidates feel about this.
