Lifeboat Cyclethon: Take part tomorrow for Sandown and Shanklin Lifeboat

Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat (SSILB) will be holding their sponsored cyclethon tomorrow (Saturday) at TJ’s Gym, Spithead Industrial Estate, opposite Morrison’s, Lake.

As with the event last year, cyclists are encouraged to take part individually or in teams to raise money for this vital service.

New lifeboat station
As covered previously, SSILB need to raise £150,000 to build a new lifeboat station and every penny raised tomorrow will go into the coffers for that cause.

All of the crew and helpers are volunteers who receive no pay for the vital work that they do, and are on call 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

£100 per bike target
Organisers are hoping that more people will come forward today to register to take part in the event. They are hoping to raise £100 per bike.

It takes place from 2pm and all entrants will receive a certificate on the day.

All you need to do if you want to take part is turn up at TJ’s Gym on the Spithead Industrial Estate (opposite Morrison’s) at about 1pm and ask for Derek or Barry.
