Medina College 2015 GCSE Results: More great success stories

A week after other schools shared details of GCSE results, Island Innovation Trust release details of GCSE results from Medina College. In their own words. Ed


Examination results at Medina College were predicted to be lower than in 2014 reflecting the contrasting nature of the student cohort.

One of the highest national achievers
Head of Federation, Richard Williams states,

“As ever we are very pleased to celebrate the individual achievements of all students, including our Head Boy, Joe Groves, who achieved 9 GCSE grades at A* and 2 more at grade A which makes him one of the highest achievers nationally.

“Other notable achievements were Megan Jones with 5A*, 4A and 1B, Olivia Garner 3A*, 5As and 3Bs, Paul Curtis 2A*s, 8As and 1B and Lauren Sandercock who achieved 2A*, 5As and 4Bs.’

“Additionally some of the core subjects such as Mathematics produced strong performances improving the previous year’s achievement and a testament to the dedication and hard work of the teaching staff.”

Significant anomalies in one of the English Papers
He went on to say,

“We are not able to provide a definitive 5A*C(EM) percentage at this time as there are some significant anomalies in one of the English Papers.

“We are working closely with the examination board at this stage to ensure that every child achieves what they deserve.”

A challenging and transitional year
Mr Williams, stated,

“We are delighted with the improvements across the Federation in what has been a challenging and transitional year.

“However, the collective actions of teachers, parents, students, Governors and Trustees have resulted in real and tangible improvements in many areas and we are in a strong position to move forward together.”
