Mental health support for those struggling with worries during uncertain times

It’s World Mental Health Day today (Monday 10th October), with a world focus on making mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority

With so much uncertainty across the world and many people feeling the pinch of the cost-of-living crisis, more people are likely to experience poor mental health with increased stress, anxiety and depression.

A recent report showed that three in four adults (77 per cent) reported feeling very or somewhat worried about the rising costs of living and half of the adults who were very worried about the rising costs of living, felt those worries nearly every day.

Feeling anxious is a perfectly natural reaction
Worries and anxiety is something everyone experiences at times and feeling anxious is a perfectly natural reaction feeling anxious is a perfectly natural reaction to some situations.

But if worries or feelings of anxiety are constant, overwhelming or out of proportion to the situation then this can affect your daily life.

Isle Talk
Our Isle Talk IAPT (Improved Access to Psychological Therapies) self-referral service offer a range of services, including stress control and worry management workshops, which aim to provide strategies to help reduce stress levels and maintain wellness.

“World Mental Health Day recognises the importance of breaking down stigmas and barriers that prevent people from accessing mental health support.

“With so many people facing uncertainty, it is incredibly important for those struggling with their mental health to feel free to come forward to get the right support to meet their needs.

“We offer psychological talking therapies to support people experiencing difficulties with their mental health, including stress, anxiety and depression. We urge anyone who needs help to get in touch with our Isle Talk IAPT team for mental health and wellbeing support.”

The Isle Talk IAPT service tailors its services to meet the needs of individuals and offers a range of therapy options, including group workshops, individual face-to- face and online therapy sessions.

Managing Anxiety – Dealing with Worry
The Managing Anxiety – Dealing with Worry sessions are for anyone struggling to control their worries.

It is a four-session course designed for those who regularly feel overwhelmed by anxiety and worry and is focused on providing individuals with knowledge and skills to manage worry and to learn relaxation skills. 

The workshop runs up to an hour, weekly, for four consecutive sessions.

Stress Control Workshops
The Stress Control Workshops sessions are for anyone aged 16 or over, experiencing stress, who want to understand how stress effects their thinking, body and actions, and want to learn techniques to manage this day to day.

They take place online for a period of six weeks, with weekly sessions offered either during a morning slot (9:30am to 10:30am) or early evening slot (5pm to 6pm).

Post-natal workshop and cognitive behavioural therapies
The Isle Talk IAPT services also offers a post-natal workshop and cognitive behavioural therapies to support people experiencing stress, anxiety and mild depression.

How to get in touch
The Isle Talk IAPT Service is available to people living on the Isle of Wight, aged 16 years old and over.

You do not need a GP referral to access IAPT services, you can self-refer to Isle Talk IAPT by calling: 01983 532860.

You will then be booked in for a telephone assessment, and then provided with the appropriate support to meet your needs.
