The Minghella Film Festival returns to Newport this weekend, but the Festival is not just about screening Anthony Minghella’s TV programmes and films. There’s a great range of film/writing related workshops taking place too.
Make a Film in A Day
Kicking off on Saturday morning, the first workshop is a full day course being run in association with the Young Film Academy.
The hands-on Make a Film in A Day workshop will be led by award-winning trainers helping young people aged 13 – 19 to make a ten shot digital film, from planning through to post-production in seven hours.
TV Writing Master Class
If writing is more up your street, then a workshop led by Jenny Lecoat in association with New Writing South could be of interest.
The two-hour session will give you an overview on writing for the small screen. Examining the nature of the sitcom and the drama series, it will look at the building blocks to create a series, a practical approach to episode writing, plus tips on presenting your work and surviving within the modern television industry.
Production Masterclass
The afternoon sees a panel discussion with filmmakers, producers and writers on short film finance and cost-effective feature production. Your opportunity to find out how they’ve done it and how you can finance your short or feature film.
Family Fun Day
Also taking place twice on Saturday are the return of the Family Fun Day.
From face painting to creating film animations, there’s always plenty for 3-8 year olds to do at the BFI Fun Days.
