The opening evening of the exhibition ‘Mirrors Nature’ on Friday 6 March 2015 kicked off an experiment to raise interest (and funds) to create a flock of 20 Mirror Birds that will land in trees around the Isle of Wight throughout the summer.
The evening was a twinkly affair. The hanging mirror installation in the window reacted to movement outside and periodically rotated to send dashes of light around, both inside and out.

The works and installations are by Isle of Wight artist Karen Grainger (Freshwater) and include a mini-installation of two sample mirror birds.
Details of the crowd-funding initiative are on display, and pledges from £5 can be taken on the spot.
Most of the works are also for sale at special fundraising prices, with portions of proceeds also going towards the project.
All who attended gave supportive feedback and some even wanted to own a pair for themselves. The different levels of pledges have now been adjusted, to allow the option of being able to have two to keep – once they have enjoyed themselves in the wild with the rest of the flock for a while of course.
