Volunteers:

New library Website to benefit Bembridge

Many thanks to Richard Beet for this update from Bembridge Library. Ed

The latest stage in the development of Bembridge Community Library has been reached with the launch of the its new Website at the library’s April Coffee Morning on Saturday 27 April.

Jonathan Bacon, chairman of the Library Management Committee, thanked everyone involved in creating this new information resource and said that the new site would not only help raise awareness of the library and the services it offers, but would hopefully be used as an information resource for the whole village.

Services provided for free
The site was developed by Cowes-based Web design agency AFX, who kindly provided their services free of charge thanks to Caroline Diamond, Bembridge correspondent for the County Press.

Caroline, who also works for AFX, knew that the company was looking for a charity or community project to support and wanted to move away from the corporate style of traditional library Websites.

Regular updates
Said Jonathan: “The company created something modern, clear and concise offering useful facts and figures, background information, a news page, a recommended reading section, lists of new books and a regularly updated events diary provided by the library’s chief fund-raiser Bill Wyke.”

The initial content of the website has been developed and uploaded by library volunteer Tina Wooding, with input from other library volunteers including co-ordinator Chris Brennan.

Following their work on the Bembridge Library Website, AFX Design now intends to continue to support one charity or community project each year.

Fundraiser
The library’s Coffee Morning event also raised nearly £130 from refreshments, a ‘bring and buy’ stall and raffle as well as offering visitors demonstrations of the new website.

Those who attended were also treated to live music during the morning, courtesy of the Bembridge Recorder Consort, led by senior library volunteer Glynis Cunliffe.
