Greenpeace Isle of Wight will hold a March for Bees on Thursday 30th July, bringing Islanders together to highlight concerns about the use of glyphosate and its potential risks to wildlife and human health.
What’s happening
The event begins at 11.30am in St James’ Square, Newport, with a short theatrical performance.
Participants will then march to County Hall, where a second performance and speeches will take place.
The March for Bees aims to draw attention to the importance of protecting pollinators, biodiversity, and public health.
Why glyphosate is under scrutiny
Organisers are calling for greater awareness of the risks of glyphosate use around the Island and for other approaches that put the wellbeing of people, bees and the wider natural environment first.
A spokesperson for Greenpeace Isle of Wight said,
“Bees and other pollinators are vital to healthy ecosystems and food production.
“This march is a creative, peaceful way for local people to show that they want a safer future – one where wildlife and human health are properly protected.”
