If you know of somebody on the Isle of Wight who has gone that extra mile to help those in the community dealing with disabilities then read on.
Because it’s that time of year when nominations are invited for the Island Ability Awards.
We’re sure that you must all know at least someone who fits into one of the four categories; Lifelong Achievement (25+); Young Person; Business/Public Sector and Social Inclusion awards.
What do they all mean?
If you’re planning on making a nomination, which need to be made by noon on Friday 10 September, then take a look through the categories below for guidance.
- The Lifelong Achievement Award is for a person over 25 who has demonstrated a sustained and extraordinary personal commitment to improving and/or reshaping the lives of people with a disability.
- The Young Person Award is for a person, under 25, who has raised awareness and shown outstanding leadership in improving the lives of people with a disability.
- In the Business/Public Sector Award, nominations are sought for an organisation that has displayed an innovative approach or made a significant contribution in advancing and improving the lives of people with a disability.
- The Social Inclusion Award is for a person or organisation who has worked towards improving a more inclusive environment be creating opportunities for people to participate more fully in Island life.

The awards form part of the Isle of Wight Lord Lieutenants annual community celebration of achievements awards. The awards ceremony takes place at The Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes on 13 October 2010.
