Number Of Council Officers Paid Over £50k Increased

VentnorBlog has discovered that the number of Isle of Wight council officers paid between £50,000 and £100,000 increased between 2009-10 and 2010-11.

Wad of moneyWhile the number of council officers earning between £50,000 and £55,000 dropped eight, from 51 to 43, the number getting paid £55,000 and £60,000 leapt from 29 to 46.

Further increases
Another siginificant increase in numbers was at the £75,000 to £80,000 level, which increased from two to seven, page 92 of the council’s draft statement of accounts revealled (below).

The total number of officers earning between £50,000 and £100,000 grew from 127 to 140. Some other lucky person also gained a salary between £95,000 and £100,000. Those earning over £100,000 were listed seperately.

Taking an average salary of each of the earnings bands shows that the increase in cost to the tax payer went up nearly £900,000 in a single year from £7,697,436.50 to £8,594,930.00.

200 people redundant in the last year
Today, the council told the County Press that top officers at the council wouldn’t be receiving pay increases this year. The CP also points out that the authority “made almost 200 people redundant in the last year, including 119 compulsory redundancies.”
