OnTheWight welcomes Jiawen Zhou to the team

OnTheWight is always happy to help aspiring writers and journalism students and this week sees the arrival of our latest intern.

Jiawen:Jiawen Zhou, also known as “Tina”, joins us from the University of Sheffield (you might remember Stephanie Mullions, also from Sheffield, spent two weeks with us last summer).

A published journalist
Jiawen is a creative and disciplined digital journalist currently studying Web Journalism (MA) at the University of Sheffield after graduating from the University of Nottingham Ningbo in China.

She’s already had her writing featured in the Ningbo Daily Newspaper in China and is a valued member of the JUS News (www.jusnews.net) team for sourcing Sheffield’s local stories and was asked to edit television programs for Zhejiang Television Station in China during the summer 2011.

Newshound
It was refreshing to hear that Jiawen also enjoys the freedom of going out and finding her own stories to develop.

She says,

“There is nothing better than having a free licence to search for a weird and wonderful piece to publish.”

Current projects
Jiawen has been one of the builders of “SkillShef”, a Website that aims to cover the changes in Sheffield’s manufacturing throughout the decades.

She’s also designing a Website called “Shelder” to provide advice in active and healthy ageing in Sheffield.

We hope you’ll join us in welcoming Jiawen to the team and enjoy reading her stories over the next two weeks.
