Patrick Joyce Responds To Claims About Missing Annual Report

Thanks to County Councillor Patrick Joyce for sending through this response to a report in the County Press last week that he had not returned his annual report for last year. He disputes this allegation and you can read his Annual Report below. Ed

Patrick JoyceReference article in last week County Press. I would like to clarify two points I am no longer a member of the Conservative group in County Hall and to rebuke the outright lie that I did not forward my annual report telling my constituency what had happened in the last year, unfortunately I assume Chairman Pugh did not like it so it was not published.

I attach a copy for my constituents (see below), they can decide at next year’s election if they believe I am carrying out my duties or not.

It is indeed a sad day for democracy when no one is allowed to vote for the benefit of their ward, nor speak their minds without first clearing it with Chairman Pugh. As an Independent member I shall continue to serve my electorate, not party politics.

Report forwarded but not published
In the last year, as a matter of principle, I resigned as Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for schools.

I did not agree that the then Leader had been forced to resign from his position on suggestions that he had acted inappropriately with regard to a planning application.

I believe in Loyalty, integrity and following constitutional rules.

At the time I resigned I was not aware that behind my back moves were afoot to go back on the Council resolution for schools passed at last Aprils full Council and supported by all Conservatives.

Because the Conservative group broke their election manifesto and refused to hold a referendum on the school issue, and then presented the public with a flawed consultation, I then resigned from the conservative group in County Hall.

I however remain a supporter of our MP Andrew Turner.

In the next year I will continue to fight to keep small community schools open. To serve the people of Brading and St Helens, listen to their views and defend their causes, and vote in their interest, not the interest of a political group in County Hall.

What has been achieved?

Brading
I managed to get special recognition for Brading as a quality Council which has resulted in new toilets, our own royal blue colour on street furniture and finally the promise that Brading School will be replaced with a modern school and community centre. Thanks must go to Brading Council for their forward thinking and input.

After 7 years and four Chief Executives I am still trying to resolve the way forward for the proposed golf course.

St Helens
At last we have our new Pavilion thanks to the support of the County Council and the tireless work by members of the community.

I am still trying to sort out bye laws for the greens and parking problems.

The big issue is the proposed closure of our school; I will oppose this at every step.

In addition planning matters are still causing concern.

I attend town and parish council meetings to answer questions, however if you have any problems please let me know

If you require funding for any local projects please let me know, I may be able to help.
